LIGHT MY FIRE

Light My Fire was a seven minute rock anthem from1967.  1967?  I was young! ‘Old’ was reserved for my allergic to rock and roll parents. Old was never going to belong to me.  I loved my music, too much!

That was 1967, and we’ve made it to 2011.  It won’t take a genius or, a calculator. to figure   I made it, at least chronologically to ‘older than some people.

My family wants me to face reality.  Okay, for real, ‘I’m older than some people.’

I am looking at it quite realistically as I am still younger than many.  If they’re old, it wouldn’t be fair to put me in the same wrinkle.

Besides, they don’t love my music like I love my music.  I am in musical enlightenment to this day when, I listen to Jim Morrison, and the Doors play, Light My Fire.  Listen to the keyboarding, and Morrison’s haunting vocal.

I’ve arranged for this song to come up in a separate tab so, after you click it to play, you can continue reading.

I made it.  At least this far.  Morrison didn’t.  A great talent but, the drugs claimed his life in his mid-20′s.  He never really got to be older than some.  Morrison never got to be, old.

How did this all come up?  Lots of people are in the check-out line much too soon.  Morrison, and Janis Joplin are just two who, were caught up in the carefree ‘youth bubble.’  Janis will always have a piece of my musical heart.

That ‘youth bubble’ cheats some people from life as they take an early exit.  It is an honest belief with  some, that this is the epitome of time for them.  It can’t, and won’t get any better than it is at that very moment.  Why bother?  With some, it was the ‘angst’ of youth being intolerable.  Why bother?

The common denominator; Drugs.  They make you feel better but, only for a moment in time.  All it takes, is that moment, and you feel so much better.  Those having reached an epitome, have frozen the best moment in time with recreational drugs, never knowing some better moments on the horizon.  Those with angst, no longer feel the angst of youth.  Rather, a euphoria never felt before.

More drugs; The ecstasy remains.  At the same moment, the physical properties of your brain are being eaten away.  Precious life properties absorbed by, the very thing you were told could hurt you.  When we’re young, we believe as we believe.

You’re young; Nothing’s lethal.  Except this.  Recreational drugs not only hurt you, they can kill you at any time.

Jim; Did you ever think your work would be legendary?  Jim Morrison never knew.

To Jim,  Janis, Amy, Jimi and the many we’ve never known.  We miss you.  How much do you miss us, missing you?  For that, we will never have an answer.
